Kern Pioneer Village is located in Bakersfield. It’s a super fun place to explore! Your students will learn all about oil and the history of Kern County. The bulk of the museum is a grid of streets with homes and businesses relocated from all over the county, and it’s fascinating to learn about what life was like back then! They also have a fantastic oil museum complete with a theater that plays a short film about the history of the area.
Parking is free, and outside food is allowed. While you’re there, check out the Lori Brock Discovery Center, which includes a number of hands-on activities that are especially fun for younger children. The weather can get hot in Bakersfield, so be sure to check the weather before you go and pack lots of cold water. Your students will have so much fun exploring all of the buildings and learning about Kern County’s rich history!
