The La Brea Tar Pits are so cool! The museum itself is full of fascinating exhibits of the history of North America, including its prehistoric past. There are hands-on experiments to play with and lots of great life-size animals to bring the past to life!
You do need to pay to access their parking lot, but you can also find a spot along the street and walk if you’d like. Outside food isn’t allowed in the museum but there are plenty of beautiful grounds in the area to have a picnic.
And while you’re there, take a stroll and check out all of the outdoor exhibits. There are active digs in working pits and plenty of little outcroppings of tar to play in. Do be careful, though. It’s very sticky!
The Natural History Museum of LA is one of the most beautiful classical museums in Los Angeles. It has a number of different halls filled with everything from live penguins to gems and shells and everything in between! The architecture of the building is amazing, so be sure to stop to look up and admire the stone work.
Parking isn’t free, so you’ll need to plan ahead for that. Outside food isn’t allowed in most of the halls, but there is a picnic area just outside designated for having a picnic. They also have their own eatery if you’d like to purchase food on-site.
While you’re in the area, you may want to walk over to the California Science Center. They have a few paid exhibits, but most of it is free! The Natural History Museum is worth taking time to slow down and get to know everything it has to offer. Your students will love the magic of the large halls and beautifully curated exhibits!
