Travel Guide
The New Children’s Museum is a new model of children’s museum whose mission is to stimulate imagination, creativity and critical thinking in children and families through inventive and engaging experiences with contemporary art. The original Museum opened in 1983 in La Jolla as The Children’s Museum of San Diego. In 2008, the Museum reopened as The New Children’s Museum – with the word “new” signifying their focus on commissioning contemporary artists to create full scale art installations for children to engage with and explore.
Parking can be found in the museum garage, and they do charge a fee. Outside food is allowed but can only be eaten in their designated area. Bean Sprouts is a hip and healthy cafe that offers a variety of choices for the entire family including those who have picky eaters, allergies and other dietary challenges. Bean Sprouts’ award-winning Imaginibbles children’s menu empowers kids to make their own healthy choices. They adhere to clean ingredient guidelines and feature organic and sustainable foods. It’s definitely worth the splurge to eat lunch at the museum!
Catering to younger children, the museum is still fun for kids of all ages. Your students will love learning through play, and will develop social skills like cooperation and patience as well. This trip is definitely fun and educational!
