Channel Island Trips are so much fun! Anacapa Island is home to thousands of seabirds, and Santa Cruz Island has a small Visitor Center, indigenous Santa Cruz Island foxes, and lots of great hiking trails. Both islands will introduce your students to fascinating Native American history and give them a taste for what it’s like to live secluded on an island!
We use Island Packers for the ferry out to the islands. Parking is free in their lot. Be sure to arrive at least 30-45 minutes early to make sure you have time to check-in before the boat leaves. Definitely pack lunch and snacks. There is also food available on the ferries.
On the way to and from the islands, your ferry captain is also your guide to amazing sea life. They’ll point out dolphins, sea lions, and whales along the way. If you start to feel a little sick, head out onto the deck to get some fresh air and keep your eyes on the horizon. The Island Packers staff are so kind and knowledgeable, so if you have any questions, just ask!
