Safari West is not your typical zoo or a theme park, nor are they a drive-through park. They are an African Wildlife Preserve and African Tent Camp. Safari West Wildlife Preserve is a private facility whose primary focus is on conservation through education. Safari West was founded in 1989 as a private ranch for breeding and species propagation. In 1992, Safari West gained membership in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, one of only six private facilities in North America to belong to that prestigious organization. There are around 800 hundred individual animals at Safari West!
Cell phones don’t get great reception, if any at all, so you’ll want to make sure you plan accordingly. Outside food isn’t allowed on the safaris, but they do have eateries on-site. Parking is free. Your students will love this one-of-a-kind way to learn about animals, animal care, and the importance of habitat conservation.
