The role of zoos has changed dramatically over the past several decades. The focus of the Sacramento Zoo has shifted from showcasing as many animals as possible, to creating a recreational experience that also focuses on the importance of providing an educational premise for which zoos exist. Zoos of today have three very distinct purposes – education, conservation, and recreation. The Sacramento Zoo inspires appreciation, respect and a connection with wildlife and nature through education, recreation and conservation.
Parking is free through William Land Park. Outside food is allowed, but there are always places to get food in the zoo. They have lots of keeper chats and some shows so be sure to check out their daily schedule and plan to see a few.
The Sacramento Zoo is a beautiful park-like zoo, and your students will have a great day learning all about animals and animal care on this field trip!
