Travel Guide
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a premier marine research center. Their scientists are rebuilding sea otter populations, transforming fisheries and aquaculture around the world, and working to protect California’s ocean. And their exhibits are amazing, immersive, and fun! You can’t miss their large kelp forest display right at the front of the Aquarium. It will take your breath away!
The coastal areas of Monterey County usually enjoy temperatures averaging 57 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. It’s a good idea to dress in layers as temperature and wind conditions may vary throughout the day and it can get cool, even during the summer. You can find a place to park in one of the parking garages nearby or in the metered parking along the streets.
No outside food or drink may be consumed inside the Aquarium, and seating is reserved for patrons of their Cafe. There are a number of great picnic sites within walking distance from the Aquarium, including Lovers Point, Berwick Park and San Carlos Beach.
The Aquarium is huge, so plan for a full day, maybe even two. They have animals from all over the world, displayed in their native habitats. Your students will love every moment of visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium!
